Minnesota Adventure Race Series - Rules and Point System

Updated: January 17th, 2010

A. Team Establishment

  • Teams and their series category will be established by the first race in which they compete.
  • Teams of the same name may exist, provided they are in different scoring categories, example: Team ACME - 2 Person and Team ACME - 4 Person.
  • Point totals and category follow the name of the team. Points can not be transferred to a different team name, nor split between members of a team during the season.
  • Teams under a chosen name in later races must be made up of at least two of the people from the original team. This means two-person teams must remain constant throughout the season, while four-person teams must have at least two of the original members for each race.

B. Categories

  • Four-Person Coed (4PC): Teams of four people with at least one member of the opposite gender.
  • Two-Person Coed (2PC): Teams of two people with at least one member of the opposite gender.
  • Two-Person Open (2PO): Teams of two people with both members of the same gender.

C. Scoring - Points will be awarded within each category:

  • Ranked, finishing teams: MAX 100 Points
  • The winning team will receive 100 points and each subsequent finisher will receive points decremented by one from the preceding finisher (2nd place = 99 points, 3rd place = 98 points, etc.)
  • Unranked, finishing teams: MAX 50 points (if allowed by individual race rules)
  • Four-person teams that finish a race unranked due to losing a team member receive points based on the score of the final ranked finisher, decremented by one for each subsequent unranked finisher, then divided by two.
  • Example: if there were 25 ranked finishers, the last place finisher would receive 76 points. The first unranked finishing team would be awarded 37.5 points (75/2).
  • Teams that do not finish due to circumstances other than violations: MAX 10 points
  • Teams removed from the course for violations: Zero (0) points
  • Ties: Teams that finish in a tie will receive the average points for both places they would have received had they finished sequentially. The next finishing team receives the points for the next available position.
  • Example: two teams that tie for third place each receive 97.5 points - the sum of the third and fourth place point total, divided by two (195/2). The next finishing team takes fifth place and receives 96 points.

D. Series Champion

  • The series championship will be awarded to the team in each category with the most accumulated points from the current calendar year.
  • Series recognition will be awarded to the top three places at the series championship race.
  • In the case of a tie, the team with the fewest unranked finishes will be recognized. If no unranked finishes are noted, then the following will be used in order to designate the team's points collection: highest place in a race, most races attended and fewest penalties.
  • Team points and totals will be judged and verified by the series member organizations and the results posted on the MARSeries website for display.

NOTE: Rules may be subject to change; competitors are responsible for reviewing finalized documents posted on www.MARSeries.com.
